With the new Dell computer, I chose to use CWRSYNC to backup daily all my data to a RAID 1 array of two external hard drives. CWRSYNC is the reincarnation of outstanding program rsync on linux/unix for syncing up file systems.
It works like a charm on Windows 7.
Here’s the command I’m using. no-p avoids the “failed to set permission” error.
rsync -av --no-p --delete /cygdrive/c/work/ /cygdrive/x/work/
It crashes multiple times in a day! Mostly it’s related to iTunes and browsing web sites with possible Flash or other video stuffs.
Dell Studio Slim has small tower/box form factor, but it still offers some space for adding a few extras.
For storage needs, it has space and power cable for one more internal 3.5” SATA hard drive. There’re two unused SATA ports (SATA 4/5).
I have chosen to add an external SATA port adapter on the rear panel and wired it to an external hard drive enclosure using a SATA cable. The enclosure contains two Western Digital 1TB Green hard drives configured in RAID 1.
I bought a new PC with Windows 7 installed. It has crashed twice with blue screens in a week!
Ordered this baby from amazon.com and can’t wait to put a hand on it:-).
