With the new 32 GB compact flash memory card appearing on the market, the 8GB and 16GB cards are getting cheaper and cheaper. I’m still using 2GB and 4GB cards, but feel that it’s time to buy some 8GB and maybe 16GB cards for shoots.
During my last shoot of a theater performance, I had to swap cards twice in the middle of shoot. With 16GB card, that would be no problem at all. My reservation on using large card was to avoid putting all eggs in one basket in case of catastrophic card failure.
My new strategy is to have two 16GB cards but only use them in around 8GB capacity. I can choose to swap the cards in a more convenient time than running out of space and being forced to swap at the worst moment.
The latest pricing on 16GB runs around $65 and you can find bargains with rebates.
